Splatoon 2 is surprisingly Japan heavy with its sales. The IP has clearly increased in popularity as its first week sales are much higher everywhere compared to the first game, but the main difference between the two is Japan by quite a wide margin. The first week sales rose by nearly 700k between the two games, but over 500k of that difference is in Japan.
