Movie genres have nothing to do with people not going to the theaters. People simply don't want to waste money on a crappy movie. Tickets are getting expensive and people want to spend it on something safe or on something they know it will interest them which is Disney or Marvel movies. |
Late August/early September is generally slow, though sometimes there is a lower budget type movie that takes advantage and makes some hay during that period with less competetion.
Planet of the Apes is a movie that should've moved back into August, it is a legit good movie that probably did not make the type of money it should have because it came out in the overly busy July period. I think Ghost In the Shell would've done far better in August too.
Agreed too with higher ticket prices, people are not willing to roll the dice as much on movies they're not as sure about. I think maybe movie theaters may want to think about discount pricing on certain types of movies. Not every movie needs to be a $12 ticket IMO.
