You'll need to create a Japanese account and add funds to it. It's pretty simple really. I created an account for each eShop the first night I had my Switch and it didn't take much time at all. I also got a digital code for a 5000 yen eShop card a while back. At the time, I was hoping Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Nobunaga's Ambition would go back on sale (they are both over 10,500 yen each, yikes!), but that hasn't happened. So, every once in a while, when a title comes out on the Japan eShop that interests me, I dip into that.
