Are the alternatives actually any good though? Assuming that another good game similar to Overwatch couldn't possibly be successful simply because Overwatch is popular just seems all kinds of wrong to me.

I've heard some of them are good. Some of them supposedly get lumped in with Overwatch too much (i forget the name of teh game ... it was by gearbox). Paladins is a pretty popular Overwatchlike game
