The PS4 does not have more highly rated games than those four systems. And even if it did, it wouldn't matter. A console library doesn't linearly increase in appeal with each additional game above some metascore threshold. No one is going to buy and play 400 games for a single console. Most console owners don't even pass 10 games. Even though Nintendo consoles have fewer games overall because of limited third party support, each individual first party game that they publish has more appeal to the general public.

This hold true no matter how far down the list you go. Nintendo software on the 3DS stands at 189 million, while Sony software on the PS4 is just 61 million, despite the PS4 having a higher attach rate and higher total software sales.

People agree that Nintendo has the best first party support out of all console manufacturers because their first party games simply appeal to many more people than either Sony's or Microsoft's.

 

yeah. I mean, put ANY other console maker over the years and put them through what ninty's been through in the 95~05 era. no one else could have survived that situation. hell sega couldn't, and they had the best first party after ninty.

the wii U sold enough to recoperate something cause of ninty first party. nintendo handhelds always prevail cause of ninty first party. 

what would be sony wihout third party? hell even losing all of squarexix's mainline FF, DQ, and KH would severely cut down sony's shares. and thats just one company.

no one can create a diverse, yet high quality (well 90% of the time... but at least you don't see glitchfests like sonic 06!) first party lineup like ninty can.

Sony first party has been better than Ninty since last gen. Sony had twice as many high rated games as nintedo on PS3 than Ninty did on Wii. that's the last complete gen we saw where both consoles sold well. Problem is you guys keep flip flopping on what constitues a better library, you switch between sales as metric on one hand and when Nintendo fails in that regard then you switch to critical acclaim. 

Nintedo games sell better because there's no competition from 3rd party software on their consoles. And when it comes to this gen I'm sure Sony first party will be have better selling AND more critically acclaimed games than nintendo. Sony Worldwide Studios only came into being last gen, so it's still relatively new but already better than Nintendo, and this gen is well on it's way to proving that for the second time critically and first time commercially as well.
