Atari 7800. Also Commadore 64 and similar computer consoles were very popular then and more than I can name. IN the UK NES faced ZX Sprectrum and lost. PC Engine massively popular in Japan. Everyone and their dog was making some sort of console or PC compat system. I don't have exact figures but I think 7800 was 4 million,PCE is 10 million,SMS 10 million. Could argue C64 and others were in their own market. If so 7800,PCE and SMS were the NES direct competition overall but in some places regional systems like ZX Spectrum.
