Nintendo are not pursuing it because they're nearly always behind the curve with weaker hardware.  Their jump from 240p to 1080p was pretty big though. They're not in a position to do 4k now but in years to come when it's feasible they will.  

I like Sony's approach of powerful hardware and awesome games both first and third party.  Best of both worlds. 

Sony's approach isn't really my cup of tea, I find their hardware kind of boring and their first party output mostly unappealing.
