I believe their goal is to permanently switch the series from December to May, which is Star Wars' historical release month, but in order to do that they would either have to do a 6 month gap between movies or an 18 month gap between movies. Can't really say I blame them for going with a 6 month gap between the two choices, and as a big Star Wars fan, I can personally say that an 18 month gap would have been very painful for me, so I'm glad they chose 6 months. |
There's no need to move the movie releases up to May though as December is basically the new summer in many ways for the box office. The LOTR/Hobbit trilogies were all released in December, and even the Harry Potter films alternated between November & summer release dates for most installments. There's traditionally less competition at the box office during the winter months as well, which gives most big releases additional legs.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
