Because it's still profitable. That's why. Nintendo "fans" who think the 3DS needs to be dropped because the new system came out don't remember how Nintendo treats their handhelds. This is all standard, they support their handhelds for a couple years after the fact. Just because the Wii U was a failed abortion of a system and Nintendo threw it in the trash as soon as they could doesn't mean they do that with their other systems. Plus with short supply of the Switch, it'd be good to have a back up system in place to make profit for them on the side as Switch supply ramps up
