Better graphics vs. better resolution, which do you choose?

Graphics. There's no contest at all for me. High resolution with subpar graphics looks barren at worst, which is one of the worst things for immersion. Low resolution doesn't generally hurt the experience, of which pre-HD TV and gaming are proof. Besides, I don't mind games looking a bit blurry/pixelated if as a tradeoff, I can get better graphics otherwise. In fact, I'd probably be perfectly happy if we still had 720p, if that meant better graphics/framerate.
