Came in here to say the exact same thing. Particle effects, soft shadows and many other visual features are directly impacted by resolutions. I'd rather have a higher resolution that lessens the need for AA effects and leaves more resources for PP effects.

Like it or not, resolution is a huge part of visual fidelity. For me, the jump from 1080p to 1440p was staggering, everything looks so much better, especially PP effects and shadows.
