Yes, the Switch can be played at home... but there it can't play out its advantage.

If you have a Switch and another (more powerful) supported system (PS4/Pro/XBO/Scorpio/PC)... why would you consider to buy the Switch version of a multiplatform game instead of a different version?

The main reason would be that you have the option to play it on the go. But if it is an online only game, there aren't many scenarios where you have good WiFi outside of your home. Free WiFi in most cafés, trains, hotels... (which you have to share with a lot of other people) is "good enough" to browse the internet, but in most cases not good enough for online gaming.
