They most certainly will abandon it if the financials make sense for them.   What do you think the costs are of running 2 seperate hardware and software divisions are? 2 seperate shipping channels, 2 seperate marketing campaigns, 2 seperate developer support systems, 2 seperate R&D divisions....and on and on and on.

Again, context, frame of reference and circumstances of the variables.

Oh, and who the hell is going to buy a "portable" Switch and rebuy half their Switch games for it?

Do you think Sony has two seperate divisions for the PS4 and PS4 Pro? Do you think that they would need to if the PS4 Pro accepted their own unique "high capacity" 4K Blu-ray discs that were incompatible with regular PS4s that they would need to create all of the seperate channels above you listed?

Who said anything about having two sepeate divisions for all of that stuff? What I'm talking about is a handheld that would be slightly more difficult  to support as the PS4 Pro is, except it takes a different shaped cartridge because money.

Terible example, PS4 Pro is basicly just stronger PS4, evrething is same (platform, OS, hardware, games, development, marketing..), its like 3DS and New 3DS, and Nintendo will almost certain do something similar with Switch, they will not make separate platform with separate games.
