It feels to me people are just watching too few shows generally. I mean I have nothing against people who only watch 3 animes a season but those people also only tend to give only 5-10 animes a fighting chance.

Which brings me to your point. The most bland and generic anime of the season obviously goes to Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Kinki Kyouten. Close second goes to Hinako Note. And people would know that if they watched more animes in a season :P

What I'm saying is, is it really that hard to watch like 30-40 first eps every 3 months?

Poor Hinako Note, went in with good expectations, but eh.

I tend to watch about 20 first eps a season, keep around 10-12 but always drop to around 5-6 a season, been that way for years. It's not hard to watch 20-40 animes a season I'm just extremely picky In what animes I watch all the way through.

I've become pickier the past few seasons purely out of time constraints. If not I'd probably be watching 30 animes this season. 20 is a good baseline and 15 would be ideal but there are just too many watchable animes coming out every season. I think thanks to my pickiness I only have 18 shows this season including 2 ongoings from last season.

Speaking Hinako, I was really disappointed. Not enough to drop it but still. It's one of those shows that give K-On the bad reputation it doesn't deserve. It's just playing the greatest hits tropes without bringing a fresh twist or at least some substance to the table.
