I neither believe it. I also believe it was a decision from above as DK was cheaper and faster to develop than for example BotW and XenoX.

And actually much more popular compared to previous Retro games (Metroid Prime games), that was purple business decision of Nintendo. It's hard to believe that DKCR sold more than Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Trilogy, combined. :)
