Yep, not to mention many of them people often request to come back. Parappa got an hd re-release like a couple weeks ago. FF9 got a re-release on Steam last year which was very well received. Debates about which PS1 FF are common, it's not just "given" to #7 because people forgot the others exist. People are often asking for a Spyro trilogy remake like the Crash one. Tekken and Gran Turismo are still hugely popular franchises etc

Along with Resident Evil still being popular, Street Fighter is still popular....Legend of Dragoon almost gets talked about daily....so to say he never heard of most of them just seemed to be untrue imo. Xenogears is regarded as one of the best RPGs ever and heck is actually pretty big now with the xenoblade series on Wii U so to say he has never heard of most them has to be false....
