Have you actually looked at who was buying Wii software from 2010 onwards? It wasn't 'da cazualz' who left (see Just Dance 2016 sales or Zelda decline). Expecting 'da cazualz' to pay stupid prices for Just Dance U, WiiU Sports and Wii U Fit when the Wii is $100 with tons of games is dumb (same applies to 3DS).
Nintendo is going to make 'da cazualz' pay this time. Wii Play/Fit/Sports should never have been as cheap/bundled as they were. Bundling Wii Sports cost Nintendo at least a cool billion dollars. 'Da cazualz' are more than happy to pay a premium for new experiences but not inferior shit with a useless, crappy screen controller. |
"Da casualz" are gone period.
Nintendo can't even get them to pay $10 for a 2D Mario game anymore on hardware they already own. They're not willing to pay anything for games anymore, you can thank Apple and Google for that, they have totally warped the value of video games in the minds of that audience completely (just as MP3 downloading completely has destroyed the traditional music sales market ... a lot of people are simply unwilling to pay for music now by the album).
1,2 Switch was just a little experiment by Nintendo IMO. If it worked out fine, if it didn't then at least they suckered a few people into paying $50 for it, which would more than cover it's dev costs.
