Software only, eh?
In 2016, Sony had: Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, The Last Guardian, MLB 2016: the Show, all of which did over 1 million at least. They also had all kinds of royalty checks and revenue coming in from sales of major 3rd party titles such as FIFA, GTA, and Call of Duty, I'd imagine.
Microsoft had: Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Quantum Break, Dead Rising 4, 2 of them did over 2 million. They also had all kinds of royalties and revenue from sales of major 3rd party titles.
Nintendo had: Pokemon Sun/Moon, which had the greatest launch in Pokemon history (HUGE accomplishment since it's fucking Pokemon!), Fire Emblem Fates' western release, Super Mario Maker 3DS port, Kirby: Planet Robobot, Mario Party: Star Rush, Hyrule Warriors 3DS port, Star Fox Zero, and Paper Mario: Color Splash. They had little to no royalties whatsoever from major third parties. Or at least NOWHERE NEAR the level of Sony and Microsoft.
So my take aways from these are:
Sony is the #1 King of Consoles.
Microsoft is trying to get that crown from Sony's grasp but isn't gaining much traction.
Nintendo should be thanking their lucky stars that they have Pokemon.
