Jeez...I want this thing to succeed, and I'm happy to hear that the launch went well, but there are SO many red flags for me that I can't envision a scenario where I'd ever own one. Seriously, in terms of "nish nish" design choices, and just general weirdness, the Switch has more eyebrow raisers than any portable or home console I can think of. This one isn't especially terrible, and is thus far an isolated occurrence, but requiring essentially 2/3 of your physical game to be downloaded is absurd. The only worse instance of this I can recall was the Tony Hawk 5 shit show. I'd rather pay more and have the full game on the cart. Also, an option to buy a non baby-proof edition of games would be boss. I realize it's a benign substance, but I don't want that crap on my games, rubbing off onto my fingers and whatnot. It's breakfast time!

From all the signs, if E3 turns out right this could be the perfect Nintendo platform. Nintendo is always strongest when they are using a handheld. Their first, second and third party should be amazing. The problem is the multiplats and as usual the despire to buy them gets gimped by either development or lack of third party interest. Regardless, there will be a lot of indies and if you want an indie at a decent price (given the right circumstances), it still might be worth the buy. Outside of that, the consoles sales will drive a ton of third party exclusives to be created. They will take this platform seriously unlike how they treated the Wii. It will be less costly to create good exclusives for the platoform. The switch taught me a great lesson with Zelda and Fast RMX. They dont need huge budget titles. They need fun titles that are exclusive and can only be found in one place.

The amount of exclusives any developer can reasonably make these days are low. You lose too many consumers by ignoring the x86 platforms (PS4, XB1, PC) and there's iOS and Android to also think about. PS4 has the most indie games by far for example.

Nintendo has to be willing to pay for development of exclusives, and I don't think they're willing to do that for more than a small handful of games.

If I'm a small indie game studio, I'm not limiting my game to a tiny fraction of my potential audience. I gotta pay my staff who need to pay their bills.
