I have a hard time seeing 3 years from Scorpio being the next iteration, unless it launches alongside the next PS console. If PS launches 2019, than XB will always be seen as "behind" by an entire year. Launching later then your competition usually doesn't work very well in terms of sales.
I would say waiting another 4 years and distancing themselves even more from PS would be a better idea. The more space between PS and XB launches the harder it is to compare the consoles. Unless you want to go overboard and make sure you have the best hardware at the best price from now on, but that means going back to the subsidizing game.

PS3 - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.
PS4 - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.
PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
