I can see plenty of kids accidentally doing something like this... and being left without a joycon, if their unlucky.

 

This is the joy-con strap, that Im talking about (below):

And yes its possible to put it on upside down, and thus it becomes stuck and might break your joy-con.

This I can agree is a problem as it's something even older people can run into, my sister did with hers earliar today when I visited, they can be removed but require some effort while you have to hold down the lock latch on the strap.

Looks like Nintendo has a new business model selling accessories for the Switch since they are very easy to break.
