I actually thought given their ages and that only a couple seemed to be core gamers that their opinions were pretty well informed.

As a huge 3D platform game fan it did hurt that a couple of them did not see a point in platformers, but I can understand it at the same time. Many of them will only have played narrative driven games or competitive driven games with the goal being unlocking more story or winning. I think it's harder to describe why people like playing platform games that are a solo experience with almost no story element. I personally enjoy the collection and exploration aspect, but it's something that either clicks with you, or it doesn't.
