Why hasn't a company made a successful alternative to Sims?

The reason i did not consider second life, is I felt in game economy hinders thing, and compare to more Playstation Home.

I still think this concept wouldn't be impossible to do, but would have to be focused on what made Sims great and not how to necessarily make Sims more open or massive.
