I don't know if "false demand" is the right word but I think an unintended (or intended, depends on what you want to believe) effect of Nintendo under shipping things for years like Amiibos and NES Mini and special edition versions of their own games has conditioned Nintendo fans to know they have to pre-order and aggressively get their Nintendo product quick or it will be gone.
So yeah I mean I guess you can call that artificial scarcity.
