To be fair, FRMX isn't a locked 1080p, Shin'en have confirmed it operates with a dynamic framebuffer that drops below 1080p when under load. (See link in OP)

The only graphical advantage Wipeout has over FRN is resolution. In terms of textures, effects, shaders, lighting, etc FRN blows Wipeout so far out of the water its not even funny.
Wipeout's assets are PS3/360 launch title caliber, while even Digital Foundry said that FRN's graphics would pass on PS4/Xbox One with a resolution upgrade.
