Politics really bring out the worst in some people it seems, god damn. Some of the responses people have towards others just for having a different opinion are embarrassing and just utterly stupid.

Some people are acting like they were personally insulted or some shit just because someone has a different opinion or view from theirs.

that's life. good thing we're behind a screen, or else things would get pretty ugly rather quickly...

Sounds like liberal facism to me.
Don't like them don't read them.
Political discourse by its nature is dirty.
Sounds like you just can't handle the heat and are upset that you can't control the narrative like you can with a gaming discussion.

Ok. That's neat.

harsher rules = censorship.

U are welcome !

Just because they place harsher rules, doesn't mean it is censorship. People simply want political threads to stop being pure garbage. Look at what happens when people think they're entitled to saying anything they want without a reason.

Would that actually be possible? Ban certain users from threads in the politics section but not elsewhere?

So like sn opinion ban? Maybe just for 90 days until the mods can come up with a new strategy for those who hold controversial opinions.

no no no. Controversial =/= ban. Let's say there is a debate on GMO's and you support them- should you be banned? Of course not.

The reason I stated we should have users watch what they say is because:

a) They say it in a horrible way (I disagree vs What a dumbass statement, see what I mean?)

b) Some opinions are simply discriminatory without debating about it- when users make a post insulting an entire race or group of people, they shouldn't be allowed to continue without consequence, regardless of how serious it is. I remember calling white actors a bunch of crackers and got an entirely deserved warning.

I think there's enough consensus to get politics off of the front page.

It's more a question of programming resources.  I'm not sure how much effort it is to do, but perhaps when the admins see this they can scope it.

It should be very easy actually. Notice how "NSFW" is a forum that can't show up on the front page? It probably has a tag. Some form of identifer saying "don't put this on the front page".

You should be able to just apply that tag to politics. Thus politics won't show up on the front page.

A betters solution me be getting "hot topics" to work on the front page. Thus you can filter the front page however you want it.

Wait, I thought NSFW can appear on hot topic?

Also, great idea. I know a lot of people have recommended it, so it's definitely being considered (I hope).
