If Switch was the device to do all the same stuff you already do with all your other devices, why would you buy Switch for the stuff? I do think we eventually get apps like Netflix and Youtube, but at the start Nintendo makes it clear this is a games device you buy to access the games and not the stuff you use your 50€ tablet for - besides, as Switch apparently isn't coming with a mobile network version, you'd have to carry your mobile phone with you anyway to watch Netflix. |
Or be in one of those rare places which offers free wifi.
But again, Switch doing what other things does wouldn't make it a device to purchase, say when it comes to the X1 Vs PS4, people say that the X1 is less appealing because it has less power and doesn't feature it's own exclusive software, obviously in the case of the switch it would have a fantastic developer making that exclusive software which you can only play on the Switch (Zelda on the Wii-u) But yeah, you would have the device as the place to go for Nintendo games over just your normal tablet for netflix and other free entertainment apps.
All I'm saying is Nintendo should not be making a person make the choice when they reach for a device of "do I pick up the cheap tablet, or my switch" they shouldn't put their games up against the unnessessary competition of something like netflix and youtube when it doesn't have to be there, they should have it so if a person is sitting down for tablet entertainment they pick up the Switch without question of what they want to do.... sure they might just use it to watch Netflix for an hour... or they might see a game on the E-Shop they wanted to buy, buy that, play it, it's the reason why the ps4/X1 want to be all in one devices, you sit at them for one thing, but you are in their closed environment then, if you want to buy spotify on the ps4 you need to go via Sonys psn store to get time for it, where they are free to advertise you games galore to tempt you into giving them more money.
To say that Nintendo has a strategy which invites putting their device down and not being the go to place for recreation time, is saying they are going with a strategy which gifts away free advertising to their rivals again... for the sake of an app which you can install on the damn Ouya lol.
