Well look at it this way, the original Xbox hade a shorter lifespan than the Wii-U and the Xbox 360 is the best console Microsoft has ever made. So it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.
Nintendo just made some poor choices, Wii-U should have been a Wii HD and Switch is what the Wii-U should have been. The Wii-U came to late to be a Wii HD and was to early for it to be a proper portable device.
