This. Link is an androgynous guy anyway, and doesn't really say anything or act on his own, so he's meant to be a stand-in for the player. Making him female doesn't really do anything for a character like that, and it's really just a waste of time.

As he grows more polygon he becomes less androgynous, thus it would make sense to give people the choice between a female and male Link, as he could have been either (in appearance) in older titles.
