While I agree that other things about the Switch can make the $300 price tag seem even steeper, the point of this thread is that the hardware itself (separate from prices of other things) isn't too expensive.  

Portability is a great feature. It can't compete with power though. Not in this case. If the console is not powerful enough to get certain games - portability will not fix that.

Portability will make some games better (like say Disgaea 5) but it won't add more games. Thus you can't use portability as a feature to off set power. They are two different features. Neither can offset the other.

I think that the Switch's price tag will adjust to be lower faster than the Wii U, so maybe that's why I don't see this as much of an issue as you do.  

I'm also sure you know that there's a price to making something portable and not just what does it add to a game.  It's cheaper to make something more powerful if you can make it bigger and less portable.
