Well, I never said that these folks weren't Wii U owners...
I think a lot of them are. With a system that is likely owned by more or less only hardcore fans, it's very likely that a good amount of these will jump directly into the next console that releases. Wii U should finally officially be dead once the Switch hits, still can't believe that my, to some, shockingly low lifetime estimates were still too high.
Pavolink; good point, but given the Wii U's awkward position in the market and the fact there's still confusion on whether or not this is actually also the 3DS successor, paired with the whole concept being something new and different, I think we still need more time and regular trends to properly make a judgement on its potential in the long run.
