I was (and still am) very disappointed of the lack of an Ethernet port on the Wii U, but for the Switch I can understand that decision.

How should that work when docking or undocking the device? Should it use ethernet when the Switch is in its dock and flawlessly switch to WiFi when taking it out of the docking station? Could work, but what happens when I put the Switch in a different docking station in another room / house / town after that?

Will it then connect with the different LAN flawlessly?

It’s been confirmed that you will be able to connect an Ethernet port to the usb port on the Switch dock, so yes, you can have wired Ethernet connection when docked, and wi-fi when it’s in tablet mode. So I don’t see why they didn’t just added the Ethernet port to the dock on the first place. Wait, I see why …. Nintendo’s nickel&diming ….

Okay, if it is no technical problem, I'm no longer defending that. Every home console should have Ethernet and a WiFi transmitter.
