The 4K screens on mobile phones make me very concered about NS' prospects for longevity:
people are going to buy the phones they need and then have to choose between
a $10 4K game or a $300 sub-4K console without that game.

Except 4K games of moderate complexity aren't viable even with stronger mobile processors than Switch.
PCs barely handle modern games at 4K, a smart phone isn't going to handle even moderately complex ones.
Nintendo cannot really hinge things on the simplest games, because that is already realm of smartphones.
Leveraging 4K also hinges on memory which would drive up costs and decrease battery life significantly.
That's why the Switch's 720p resolution doesn't matter, because it can't drive solid games higher than that.
It can only barely manage 1080p and sometimes not even that when docked in full power overclock mode.
They're better off with best 720p panel and APU they can manage, although the latter seems dubious.
