if those kids only use it for a short amount (like 30minutes) a day I doubt there is any real chance of lasting damage

I had lassie surgery that lasted around ten years before my eye sight began to worsen. I just happened to start playing 3DS when this happened. But I also just went back to college and started squinting at the chalk board. It may be anecdotal but I have a feeling its not good for anyone's eyes. Heading tracking probably fixed some issues.

an article I read in a reputable science magazine said that the worst thing for eyes is reading/studying, because students often do that indoors/for hours and eyes (up until the age of ~35) need atleast 2 hours of outside sunlight (outside it's much much brighter than inside, even if you have "bright" lights or big windows) a day in order to inhibit further lateral growth of the eyeball (> myopia)
