I am not saying Nintendo is progressive, while Sony is conservative. I am saying that Nintendo's core philosophy is an attempt at keeping the way we play games fresh. Playstation is about releasing a consistent piece of hardware with upgraded components generation over generation, and has a strong media component (For example: CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays). Nintendo is about changing the way people play games generation over generation (For example: d-pad, scrolling, shoulder buttons, 3D, analog sticks, touch screen, motion controls).

... come on man. You don't seriously believe this. How on earth is the NES -> SNES -> N64 not pretty much the same console with upgraded components? Because they added a couple extra buttons to the controller over the years? Sony added two thumbsticks mid-generation for the PS1, so they arguably did just as much to "keep the way we play games fresh" than Nintendo did by adding one thumb stick. DId Sony "attempt at keeping the way we play games fresh" by adding a touchpad and a share button to the PS4 controller? Or by adding a touchscreen and rear touchpad to the Vita? Better yet, how is supporting CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays, media that allowed developers the freedom to make games without the space limitations to the cartridge (we wouldn't have gotten the Final Fantasy VII we all love if Squaresoft had to make it fit on a cartridge). You can also check out Sony's use of cameras with the eye toy, their very Pokemon Go-esqe game for PSP (Eyepet), to the AR card game Eye of Judgement, to the failed concept of Wonderbook. Nevermind the fact that the GC -> Wii -> Wii U are almost literally upgraded versions of the exact same hardware with a new controller.

The only real difference between Sony and Nintendo in terms of the differences you brought up is that Nintendo makes their new control schemes mandatory while Sony makes them optional. You see that as Nintendo as "changing the way people play games" when in reality many see it as trying to force gamers to play the way Nintendo wants them to play rather than the way the gamers want to play. Star Fox Zero on the Wii U is a prime example of that. Just look at how Nintendo's grip on the gaming industry has faded over the years. They went from powerhouse to an after thought. We now have a generation that has grown up  Their fanbase is dwindling. Before the release of the playstation, there were over 150 million people playing Super Nintendos and Game Boys. Today the Wii U and 3DS have sold less than 75 million combined. Nintendo is trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice with the Nintendo Switch and is hoping beyond hope that the Switch becomes a fad like the Wii did. Because if it doesn't. If the Switch only sells Wii U to Gamecube levels, I would be shocked if Nintendo's shareholders allow them to make another console, and that would be a shame.
