Use XP or credit bounties if you play versus. Horde gets you credits in no time with XP bounties too. You get 500credits for every 5 levels and core matches give decent credits. Personally I think operations packs are a better purchase than elite packs anyway.

edit. And i don't think Halo packs are comparable since those include items you need to compete.

I'll give that a try in the new year. I haven't put too much time into horde, mostly competitive. I have some games I want to beat first before I jump into Gears again.
