They're easy if you let the game be easy: if you turn off the Exp. share, and turn off the possibility to switch pokémon once you're told what Pokémon the opponent will send out you're already up for a mildly challenging game, on top of that you can apply dozzens of restrictions that make the game harder such as the Nuzloke rules or using only the items found in the wild/given to you by NPCs without buying them.

That beeing said a Difficulty selection is needed and imho will soon be implemented now that Game Freak can work on the Switch...

Exp. Share doesn't make the games easier; it makes them conventient. Look at SMT for proof.

The Exp. Share gives you more exp than you would normally get when turned on so yes, yes it makes the game easier on the long run. I got proof of this when I exchanged my opinions with a friend of mine who played Moon a few weeks after I played Sun and, despite not beeing that big of a Pokémon player, he said the game was super easy and that he reached the end with a team at level 70 without grinding since he left it active while on the other hand I finished the game (same thing with no grinding ) ended up with a team of level 55-60 which made the last island and the league quite challenging since I wasn't overleveled and the AI was working properly...
