I think politics always have produced shady facts about most things. Politics is a structure that, although I feel necessary for a civilized society, promotes power over facts. What we do have in society is a more lazy attitude towards blatant lies where politicians can make apparent inaccurate statements without consequence. Trump has made this into an art but he is far from alone within both the right and the left.
