not really no. Yes thd sales were underwhelming. But when thegeneration ended, there was a lot of love for the system and its games. Melee was an generation favorite of many gamers including those who didnt have a gamecube. If Nintendo had made a GC 2 instead of the Wii, they could have easily sold 40 millions consoles or even more. The PS3 was so expensive that there was a window for Nintendo to take back the crown. They went for the casual, which seemed like a great idea, but the biggest mistake is that in the process they just told the gamers to go f*#k themselves. And now with the WiiU, karma got them good, no gamers trust Nintendo, casual moved on, and the brand is at an all time worst. So maybe the GC wasn t a big success short term, but long term, that strategy would have paid off way more, and a gamecube 3 instead of a WiiU would have sold a LOT more. But short term, the Wii was a huge better success, but look where this all ended? |
Nostalgia often makes people forget how much of a laughing stock Gamecube was back in the day. It was seen as a child's toy. The only people who loved it were hardcore Nintendo fans, mainstream gamers regarded it with either contempt or apathy.
I think you're projecting too much of your own feelings towards the systems in question and assuming everyone feels the way you do.
