A shelter isn't enough, especially in -40*C ... (while 40*C is far from comfortable at least homeostasis is less likely to fail you there since you have a realistic option of sweating able to cool you down whereas most people can't even sustain living in -20*C or let along fathom living in -40*C) You'd need some sort of reliable heating system to prevent falling into hypothermia condition ... (dying from dehydration is totally different to dying from a heat stroke) Even the CDC agrees with me that Americans are more likely to die from excessive exposure to cold temperatures than hot temperatures, in fact TWICE as likely! That's a report coming from an Agency whose full of medical professionals! |
Again people have survived in cold climates much longer then the have survived in extreme heat. Humans being warm blooded makes them much easier to adapt to cold and very cold weather then extreme heat. Cold blooded aminals survie and function well in hot and very hot weather but they can't function properly in cold weather and they only can survive very cold weather if they are able to hypernate. There is more then enough clothing that can protect you from cold and extreme cloth but there is no clothing that can protect you properly from 110F or hotter weather without ac you are pretty much fucked if you are stuck in that kind of heat for to long. Also most places where humans live never get to -40C.
