Tribalism and political theories aside for a moment, was the movie good though?

The Force Awakens was fabulous, made me feel like a child and I would very much want to see Rogue One in the theaters.

The first half of the movie is honestly a bit of a mess. The first scene is good but then it kinda meanders all over the place. 

However it clicks about half way through and from that point on it is on point it really gets going and if you're a Star Wars fan you're going to be grinning like crazy. There are some spectacular moments. 

I would say it has higher highs than The Force Awakens, but it's not as consistent overall. It also does not have that "child like wonder" feeling about it, it's a more "serious" film in tone. Some may like that, some may not. 

Nice. Sounds like a great movie, but perhaps not qualifies to your personal top list. I usually prefer a serious tone in films, so that sounds very very good to me in a Star Wars movie for a change. Will be interesting to see if it works.

I love how the Hobbit went from childish to serious in the trilogy, for example.
