I want to know if it's free to just buy it, or if I have to actually download it this month to it to be free, not just the act of buying it.
Because I don't have any xbox, so if I can somehow manage to just buy it, I can download it sometime in the future when/if I buy one, but if I have to actually download it now, yeah, can't do it.

"buy" it from the store until Dec 31 and it belongs to your account. Then you can download it whenever you want.
