Fear that it could be affecting PSN profits might of been the real reason it was removed.  It a reasonable guess but to my knowledge wheather you believe it or not the only official statement from sony was they removed it due to security concerns.

Yes, it's common knowledge that Linux is a huge hole when it comes to security.

As a Linux user for a decade, I should know. There's not even decent antivirus and antimalware software available.
