So what? The original PlayStation did it first. With how big the industry is now it's not that hard to pass 49 million units.

But yes, congrats PS4.

Well WiiU didn't even come close, and Xbox One has a long way to go.
In fact, only two non-Sony consoles have managed that since the SNES did it

Wii, DS and GBA? That's three that I know of.

So Nintendo releases the New 3Ds, PlayStation releases the Pro and Microsoft "extending" the generation by releasing the Scorpio.

Is it fair to count all the sales for different models into the same basket?

I don't know what to say honestly, the PS2 did it without the need to do middle gen hardware upgrades as far as I know.

They all play the same games right? At lesst for Playstation and XB1.

As long as they play the exact same games, whatever kinda revision is done doesn't matter. If the gens still last for 6-7yrs then it doesn't matter either. It's not like they are extending the gens by releasing upgraded hardware that have their own exclusive games.

And you know the PS2 had something called the PSX which was a more capable and powerful sku, though it was only released in Japan. PS1 had the Net yaroze that was also a more expensive PS1 and that allowed users be able to build their own games on it. But again it's release was limited.

Who says they (will) play the same games? You have them doing that now, but it's more likely the devs are going to take advantage of the increased power - as the games are low-end PC games anyway.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
