It's a little eerie how much this is kinda panning out how I thought it might.
Even right down to a dock with a fan inside of it.
I'm feeling better about the system now. 1080p for graphics along this line at home:

Is ... ok? I mean it's nothing to throw a party over but it's ... ok. If that can run at 1080p, that's not as bad as I thought it might be.
I think for PS4/XB1 ports the optimal set up would be 540p in portable mode and 720p in home mode (full clock). Also lol at Nintendo blacklisting LPVG ... but thanks for taking one for the team Kate.
