Since the 3DS and WiiU, they became overly cautious with the shipments of products, they don't want to overstock, because you loose a lot of money if they don't sell.

That's why you so rarely see Nintendo games in bargain bins, because retailers don't have much Nintendo items on their hands when it's time to empty the stocks.

But I get that Nintendo NES shortage is annoying, but I don't think Internet buzz = sales, and how much buzz = how much units shipped? .

 

The number of units Nintendo shipped, was a result of market research, they failed in calculating that number.
