You're actually trying to convince yourself and others that with the Switch, you're actually getting two devices for the price of one. No, it's one device.
You can try to look at it as a "best of both worlds" scenario, but it can also be seen as a "worst of both worlds" scenario. The specs are too crappy and the support too questionable for serious home gaming. On the other hand, you have to wonder about the handheld side of things as well. It's not really as handy and pocketable as traditional handhelds have been, and battery life is going to be really questionable. A jack of all trades, master of none? Is that going to fly? We'll see.

Well, if we look at it just from a handheld perspective, it offers a HUGE jump compared to the New 3DS. And like Miyamotoo said, that one is still selling pretty good at a price of $199.
As for the pocketability of it... I think tablets and phablets have been showing for the last couple of years that the small form factor is highly overrated.

The (New) 3DS XL (and DS XL before it) has been showing that for the past couple of years as well. That thing doesn't fit in very many pockets. If it's a desirable enough device for people to want it, they'll lug it around.
