Yes. I thought about BAR while I was getting ready, and I remember being fairly impressed with TGO. The PS1 racinng games still posterized them, a'la Michael Jordan. I also wanted to highlight the areas where the N64 had the clear edge, but time is not my friend at the moment. Poeple on this site, almost to a fault, say N64 was teh most powerful. It was on paper, but I really don't think it's that clear cut. BAR was super fun! |
N64 was stronger overall, but not in every way. Each had advantages over the other. PS1 could do higher resolution textures due to more texture cache and the larger storage capacity of CDs.
On the other hand, N64 had more RAM (4MB standard or 8MB with the expansion pack versus 3MB in PS1) and more modern features like trilinear filtering, perspective correct texturing, and anti-aliasing.
One of the major differentiating factors was that the PS1 hardware was a very efficient and easy to develop for, while N64 was by comparison quite convoluted and difficult to get optimal performance out of.
