The main problem is that they have so many IPs but so little studios to make or manage them. There's a reason why they usually hand their spinoffs and 2nd-3rd rate, less important franchises to 2nd, 3rd party developers (Platinum Games - Star Fox Zero, Team Ninja - Metroid: Other M, Next Level - Luigi's Mansion 2, Metroid Prime: Federation Force), because they would rather spend their internal, in house resources on their most important, 1st class franchises, and are unwilling to invest in more, smaller studios to develop the other franchises unless they know, for a fact, that they will sell.'
Shame because while I may not have the money nowadays to go out and buy all of those games from those franchises. because life is kicking my ass and I have to prioritize, there are a lot more people that are more than willing to do so.
This is where the success of that mobile division will be crucial, if that succeeds and if they're serious about the dedicated gaming audience, they can invest that money towards opening newer studios to hire younger developers and have them all come up with fresh ideas and new games for all of those lesser known franchises, while the main studios they own at the top (EPD, Game Freak, Monolith, Intelligent Systems), handle the important franchises and act as the money makers.
Then over years of development and experience, those younger developers can work their way up the ladder to the bigger studios.
Hell, open up some European and American studios as well!
