Something that has bothered me since NVidia released its press release on the Switch's was they used the word "scalable" to describe the chip. When chip makers use this terminology they are referring to how much they can modify the chip architecture to get more power out of it.

So it makes me think this. Looking back at how Nintendo has handled it handhelds in the past they like releasing updated, more powerful versions of the handheld every several years, and with this practice now being used at least in this generation for the PS4 and slim Xbox One. Nintendo may be planning to fuse the tradition console generation and what is used by Smart Phones and pads. And release an updated version of its Switch every few years with a more powerful SOC, making the new Switch backwards compatible with the other versions.

And with NVidia's proprietary APIs it makes easier to replace the chips without affecting bc. Plus with Nintendo's addition of interchangeable controllers this may be the console that Nintendo plans on sticking with for awhile.
